The character of Daisy was based on my first-cousin-once-removed, Dot Nicholson of Liverpool, England.
She is a cousin I didn't even know existed until 2007. In 2005 my mother made a trip to England to meet long lost cousins that had drifted apart decades earlier. It was then that she invited Dot to visit America. Dot jumped at the chance, bringing a whole new, and very welcome, dimension to all our lives.
Since meeting Dot, in the summer of 2007 (she returned in 2008, skipped 2009 due to knee replacement surgery, and has just returned again in 2010) I've become more interested in genealogy. Her visit connected me to a branch of my family I had only
